Tidal Waves: 2021 Season Update

Hello Swim Families,

We are excited to announce the return of the Towne Lake Tidal Waves Swim Team for the summer of 2021! As with all aspects of COVID life, there will be some modifications to our season. However, even though there are some differences we are committed to the same fun and fulfilling experience that summer swim has always been!

We are working to open registration as soon as possible but wanted to share some information in the meantime. We will send an update once registration opens in the coming days!

WHAT’S DIFFERENT?

  • We will be making slight changes to the way practices are run; details are below.
  • Following suit of other Towne Lake swim teams, meets will be “virtual” this summer. This means that all meets will be home and only Tidal Waves swimmers and families will attend. We will time all events and compare times to our opponent for final placing/scoring. This is due to existing capacity restrictions at the pool; we’ll be using surrounding common areas for families and swimmers when they are not on the deck for their event. More details on the process to come.
  • We will have 4 swim meets this year and there is an optional divisional meet at Georgia Tech in late June.
  • Plans are subject to change! We are putting together our best laid plans but ask for flexibility as this season will be unlike any other. We may tweak processes as we go and will make communication of any changes a priority!

PRACTICE DETAILS

  • Practices will begin in mid-May and are held Monday through Thursday from 4PM-7PM (exact practices times for age groups are still TBD).
  • Beginning in June, practices shift to the morning from 8:30AM-11AM (exact age group times TBD).

COVID-BASED PROCEDURES

  • Attendance taken at each practice.
  • Coaches will be temperature checked prior to each practice/meet.
  • Swimmers will have lane assignments; max 5-6 swimmers per lane.
  • Swim practices will not overlap in the water; one group will be done before the next group begins.
  • Kickboards will be sanitized following each age group session and not shared among swimmers during their sessions.
  • Parents will monitor their children for temps and/or COVID symptoms and are to not send them to practice/meets if there is any question. This follows the process set by CCSD. Also, if kids miss school due to illness, they are to not attend swim practice.
  • Parents should also alert coordinators if their child tests positive or is in quarantine; CDC guidelines are to be followed for these situations.
  • Coaches are not mandated to wear masks. Also, they may need to assist with swimmers in the water which necessitates close contact. Coaches will have access to hand sanitizer at all times.

Again, be on the lookout for registration info soon. Any questions, reach out to us at [email protected].

Best,

2021 Tidal Waves Coordinators

Jen Sposito, Lori & Ted Powell, Kelli Heath, Shawna Herring & Megan Bondi
